Carlisle business rates have seen substantial increases, with the industrial sector alone experiencing rises of over 16% since the revaluation took effect on the 1st of April 2023. Other commercial property sectors also saw significant hikes in rateable value (RV), adding pressure to business owners already facing rising costs across the board. The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) is the official body responsible for determining the rateable value of all commercial properties. For the 2023 rating list, the VOA has valued commercial properties across England and Wales at £70 billion per year. This tax, which contributes to approximately £30 billion in revenue annually, is expected to rise to £35 billion in the next financial year.

Rising Costs

In addition to business rates, many Carlisle businesses are dealing with increased rent, commercial mortgages, wages, and utilities. With so many expenses on the rise, ensuring that your business rates are fair and accurate has never been more important.
