The Client
Located at Market Place, Oundle, our client operates a retail unit. Their business serves the local community, offering a range of goods while maintaining a strong customer base.
With retail premises being subject to business rates, ensuring accurate relief eligibility was essential in managing financial commitments effectively.
The Problem
Despite being a longstanding client, the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) failed to accurately assess the business’s entitlement to Retail Relief (RR), creating uncertainty about whether the client had been receiving the reduction.
This oversight meant the client could have been missing out on valuable savings. RVA identified the error, recognising the potential financial impact and prioritising the need to secure the rightful relief, ensuring the client wasn’t paying more than necessary amid rising retail costs.
The Solution
During a second inspection of the client’s relief status, RVA Surveyors identified that they had not been benefiting from RR despite being eligible. We promptly submitted an application, providing supporting evidence to the VOA.
Following our intervention, the VOA awarded RR for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 rating years. We are now working to secure the relief for 2025/26, ensuring continued savings for the client.
The Outcome
With Retail Relief successfully applied, the client now benefits from a significant reduction in their business rates, easing financial pressure and allowing them to reinvest savings into their shop.
By identifying and resolving the issue, we ensured they received the relief they were entitled to, preventing unnecessary costs and securing long-term financial efficiency.
